What is one of the delicious Meatless Monday meals you are going to enjoy today?
Today for meatless Monday I’ll be enjoying that great British delicacy. Heinz Baked Beans on Toast. The type of baked bean you use for this recipe is very important. Heinz Baked beans are served in a tomato based sauce that has very little added sugar and salt, and no bacon, sausage, or any meat of any kind. Simply heat in a saucepan and pour over some freshly toasted and buttered bread of your choosing.
What delicious organic or local beverage will you pair with your meatless meal?
The choice of beer is important, as it is in any beer/food pairing, and should show off elements of the food in the brewer’s choice of ingredients. A Wolaver’s Organic Pale Ale is both local where I live (brewed 5 miles away) and Organic. The beer is well hopped with cascades, but not aggressively so, and the malt character is strong with caramel malt and toasty malt finish.
Why have you decided to take the pledge?
The average American consumes 63 lb of beef a year which takes 750 lb of grain, and 138,600 gallons of water to produce, and destroys 3465 square feet of rainforest. This also creates 2,180 lbs of CO2 in the environment. Not eating meat, even for a single day, can help reduce these figures.
