Beer for breakfast? You betcha! One of the easiest and most delicious ways to "spike" your breakfast with some rich, chocolate stout goodness is in pancakes!
This recipe is from scratch, but you can easily replicate it using a box mix, replacing the milk!
Fun alterations to this recipe include adding chocolate chips, nuts or both to the recipe. Recommended toppings include anything from traditional maple syrup to powdered sugar to berries and so on! The combinations are endless, so we encourage experimenting and making the recipe your own!
Chocolate Stout Pancakes (from scratch)
- 1/2 cup Bison Chocolate Stout
- 1/2 cup Milk or Buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder
- Pinch of salt
- 2 TBSP butter or oil
- Butter or oil for pan
- Chocolate Chips or Nuts (optional)
In a mixing bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Mix in the beer, milk and oil. In a seperate bowl, sift the flour, cocoa, salt and the baking soda. Slowly mix flour into the liquid mixture. If desired, add additional flour to adjust consistency. Try not to over mix, but also don't leave any lumps.
Heat a griddle or frying pan on medium heat. Coat in butter or oil. Pour or spoon pancake mixture onto griddle. When the pancakes form lots of bubbles and are slightly brown underneath, give them a flip and cook for another minute or two.
Serve however you wish… and if it's not a work day — make sure to wash them down with a Chocolate Stout (yes, even in the morning!)
