Barleywine Ale
Best Local Organic Beer: Purest pour of sustainable brew (2007 East Bay Express)
Layers
of flavors run deep in this fantastic beer from Bison Brewing. Company
owner Dan Del Grande has fiddled with the English barleywine style for
just three seasons now, yet he has succeeded at capturing a piece of
heaven. At 9.5 percent ABV, it's strong stuff, yet beautifully mellow
and gentle on the hops. Residual sweetness makes the buffalo-brown
beverage an instant pleasure, while complexities of flavor set it apart
from lesser beers. A floral aroma of oats and rye is followed by
flavors of chocolate, fudge, and caramel, and each sip delivers a
mouth-filling nutty finish that leaves you in the clouds for several
minutes. Drink the beer at just under room temperature and pair it with
a Fromage Blanc and juicy Medjool dates. As a certified organic
company, Bison brings beer lovers the brew of a sustainable future, and
if you suspect you're headed for warmer climates in the next world,
taste heaven while you still can
